Maarten Vanden Abeele Jan Lauwers & Needcompany
Gedrukt boek
Photographer Maarten Vanden Abeele followed Jan Lauwers and his theater company Needcompany through Europe for one hundred and twenty days. The theatre production themselves are not depicted. The photographer wanted to capture the moments in hotels, on the road, behind the scenes and in the boxes. The result is a fascinating look at the life of actors and the atmosphere in a theatre company at the moment they leave the stage. Next to the photographs, a collection of essays, stories and conversations is presented under the title The lucidity of obscenity/the obscenity of lucidity. Maybe every page of this book is about the impossibility of imagining our own intimacy. About the proximity of "something" that is familiar and strange at the same time. About silent despair od someone who is so present to him or herself that he or she seems totally absent. There is such a thing as sinking away into one's own nothingness which is merely bewildering.
