Eén van dè zangers in de jazz van de negntiger jaren jaren was Kevin Mahogany. Van hem kwam een voortreffelijke cd uit, getiteld: You Got What it Takes. Daarop wordt hij begeleid door klassejazzmusici als tenorsaxofonist Benny Golson, pianist James Williams, bassist Michael Formanek en drummer Victor Lewis. Onder de 13 tracks zijn klassiekers als Just in Time, Sophisticated Lady, Yardbird Suite en God Bless the Child. James Williams schreef Old Times Sake en Mahogany zelf BG's Groove. De cd opent overigens met een duet van Mahogany en zangeres Jeanie Bryson.
