Annette is een musicalfilm van de eigenzinnige regisseur Leos Carax (bekend van onder meer Holy Motors uit 2012). In de film spelen Adam Driver en Marion Cotillard een koppel die een dochter krijgen met een bijzondere gave. Op het festival van Cannes in 2021 opende de film en kon deze na afloop rekenen op een staande ovatie van vijf minuten. Het excentrieke, uit de broers Ron en Russell Mael bestaande duo Sparks tekende voor de soundtrack. Carax schreef samen met hen aan de teksten en op het album zijn ook Driver en Cotillard te horen. De soundtrack bevat veel jeu en kent invloeden die reiken van glamrock (teruggaand naar de hoogtijdagen van Sparks) tot opera. Het is een wilde rit, die als net zo onstuimig is als de film zelf. Deze 'unlimited edition' bevat de gehele soundtrack, verpakt in een fraai boekje. (JvQ)
