Henry Purcell Odes à sainte Cécile
Vanaf het einde van de 15e eeuw trad St. Cecilia steeds vaker op als patrones van musici en werd ze steeds vaker afgebeeld met het orgel als haar attribuut. Sindsdien is ze als beschermvrouwe van de muziek niet meer weg te denken uit de West-Europese cultuurgeschiedenis. De cd "Odes for Saint Cecilia's day" bevat twee odes voor de heilige, gecomponeerd door Henry Purcell. De ode "Hail! bright Cecilia" uit 1692 is de meest omvangrijke van de twee. Bescheidener is het acht jaar daarvoor gecomponeerde...

Bij Ottavo verscheen een cd met muziek van Purcell, uitgevoerd door Nederlandse musici. Opgenomen zijn de drie odes: "Great parent, hail", "If ever I more riches did desire" en "Welcome song". Hoewel het Purcell-jaar al weer ver achter ons ligt, is het toch een cd die vanwege uitvoering en repertoirekeuze de moeite waard is. Ensemble The New Consort bestond in 1996 tien jaar en heeft al diverse prijzen gewonnen op Oude Muziek Festivals. Vocaal Ensemble Quink bestaat uit vijf professionele zangers....
