Voor het eerste zijn de complete werken voor pianosolo van Copland (1900-1990) verkrijgbaar op cd uitgevoerd door Leo Smit. De piano was één van Copland's meest geliefde instrumenten. Zelf was hij ook een uitstekend pianist waarvan werd gezegd: he proved to be an effective, rhythmically lithe performer. Ook zijn composities zijn sterk beïnvloed door de jazz. Fantasy is zijn meest indrukwekkende werk voor piano solo en heeft een complexe structuur. Het werk is tonaal, maar sterk beïnvloed door twaalftoonstechniek....
