Gender, leprosy and leprosy control
This study pays particular attention to the reasons for the lower incidence of leprosy among women in Indonesia. Biological factors are explored as well as gender issues, the powerful position of traditional healers and patient's fear of stigmatization. Since case detection and diagnosis in Aceh has proved far more problematic than case holding, the study recommends the improvement of early case finding to cut the vicious circle of delay and deformity.
