Ruth Vasey The world according to Hollywood, 1918-1939
Vasey shows how the Hollywood movie industry's self-regulation shaped the content of films between the World Wars to make them saleable in as many markets as possible. By implementing such strategies as the industry's Production code, the Motion picture producers and distributors of America (MPPDA) ensured that domestic and foreign distribution took place with a minimum of censorship or consumer resistance.
