Gedrukt boek
At the end of the 19th century, the artists' colonies Domburg, Ahrenshoop and Nidden/Nida came into being at the coasts of the North and the Baltic Seas. Their significance by far exceeds the Dutch, German and Lithuanian borders. Every colony followed its very own way from realistic to modern art, but they shared the dune scenery, the remoteness and extensiveness, the water and the special light. In Domburg the impulses led in particular to Dutch Luminism, in Nidden and Ahrenshoop to German Expressionism. This evolution comes to light in a several articles and many characteristic paintings, followed by a description of the works and a biography of the artists.
