A combination of pictures and narration relating the story of the planning, building, and development of the capitol, Washington D.C. The video mainly deals with architecture, but also gives some historical background information on the role of the capitol in the war of 1812 (when it was burned down by the British), and the Civil War. The part about the early history of the city includes quotes by Charles Dickens, who complains that the government officials do not use their spittoons properly. The decorations adorning the capitol, such as statues and paintings, are also discussed
