Arthur Bliss Introduction and Allegro

Album

Drie kenmerkende werken uit het oeuvre van de Britse componist Bliss. Introduction and allegro schreef Bliss in 1926 onder invloed van de virtuositeit van de Amerikaanse orkesten. Bliss woonde in de jaren '20 enige tijd in de USA. Zijn Meditations on a theme of John Blow werd in 1955 geschreven in de periode waarin Bliss zijn grootste successen kende. Hij was in 1953 benoemd tot 'Master of the Queen's Music'. Het Celloconcert is een van Bliss laatste grote werken. Hij schreef het in 1970 voor Rostropowitsj, die er de wereldpremière van gaf (opname leverbaar op Intaglio INCD 7151). De solist op deze nieuwe CD is Robert Cohen. Het Royal Philharmonic Orchestra staat onder leiding van Barry Wordsworth. Dit is een goede CD wanneer u met het werk van deze Britse componist kennis wil maken. Vooral van belang voor de briljante Variations.
