Rodion Sjtsjedrin 24 preludes & fugues

Album

De in 1932 geboren Russische componist Shchedrin (of Sjtsjedrin) is voornamijk bekend door zijn balletmuziek (o.a. zijn Carmenballet voor slagwerk en orkest). In de meeste van zijn werken is Shchedrin inventief, extrovert en effectrijk. In zijn twee boeken met pianopreludes is hij echter voornamelijk introvert. De inventiviteit heeft daaronder niet te lijden. De inspiratiebronnen waren Johann Sebastian Bach en Dmitri Shostakovich. Maar in beide cycli bepalen Shchedrins klankleuren de sfeer. De enige uitvoeringen op cd van de complete werken.(W.Z.)_
