Johannes Simon Mayr Medea in Corinto

Cd-premiÙre van de succesvolste opera van de oorspronkelijk uit Duitsland afkomstige componist Mayr, die het grootste deel van zijn leven verbleef in ItaliÙ waar hij o.a. als leraar van Donizetti bekend is gebleven. Deze opera ging in 1813 in Napels in premiÞre. Volgens de Gramophone (nov. 1994) is het meest geslaagde deel van de opera de orkestratie. Die wordt door het Philharmonia Orchestra fraai uitgevoerd. De vocale solisten (o.a. Alastair Miles, Yvonne Kenny en Jane Eaglen zijn van goed niveau. Fraaie presentatie met ge´llustreerd tekstboek. (W.Z.)
