Choir of St. Paul's Cathedral The English anthem vol.5

Het Choir of St. Paul's Cathedral o.l.v. John Scott nam een vijfde cd op met elf anthems van voornamelijke Engelse componisten. I was glad van Hubert Parry werd geschreven voor de kroning van Edward VII in 1902 en ademt een sfeer van edelheid en grandeur. Totaal anders van klankkleur is Glory and honour and laud van Charles Wood uit 1925. Recent repertoire komt o.a. van de hand van John Tavener. Zijn Annunciation uit 1992 is geschreven voor het St.Cecilia Festival. The Kingdom of God van Hugh Wood werd door het St. Paul's Cathedral Choir voor het eerst uitgevoerd tijdens het City of London Festival van 1994. Andere composities op deze cd zijn van Lennox Berkeley, Edward Elgar (Great is the Lord) en Ralph Vaughan Williams. De klankschoonheid van het koor blijft in alle werken en stijlen erg mooi. (L.W.)_
