Michael Tippett Concerto for double string orchestra

In de werken van Michael Tippett (geb. 1905) vallen enkele aspecten op: ritmische vitaliteit - invloeden vanuit de volksmuziek en later ook vanuit de jazz - de barokperiode als inspiratiebron voor enkele werken. Deze kenmerken komen naar voren in de drie werken die op een nieuwe cd zijn uitgebracht: "Concerto for double string orchestra", "Fantasia concertante on a theme of Corelli" (thema uit het concerto opus 6, nummer 2) en de "Ritual dances from the midsummer marriage". Ze worden uitgevoerd door het BBC Symphony Orchestra (& Chorus) o.l.v. Andrew Davis.
