In 1996 bestond de progressieve rockband Manfred Mann's Earth Band 25 jaar. Misschien wel om dit jubileum luister bij te zetten verscheen het album Soft Vengeance. Van de originele bezetting zijn alleen Manfred Mann en Chris Thompson overgebleven. Op Soft Vengeance" staan nogal wat covers. Zo speelt de band eigen interpretaties van o.a. Pleasure Pain (Divinyls), Play With Fire (The Rolling Stones), Nothing Ever Happens (Del Amitri), Shelter From The Storm (Bob Dylan) en The Price I Pay (Robert Cray).
