Deze vijfde "Christmas in Vienna" werd op 21 december 1997 live opgenomen in het Rathaus in Wenen. Begeleid door de Wiener Symphoniker treffen we aan de zijde van Placido dit keer de Engelse musicalster Sarah Brightman, de Belgische zanger Helmut Lotti en de Italiaanse zanger Riccardo Cocciante. Op het programma stonden bekende Kerstliederen als "Deck the halls", "Adeste fideles", "Silent night", "Away in a manger", "An old fashioned Christmas" en een medley van bekende Kerstliederen. Minder bekend zijn het door Trevor Horn en Hans Zimmer geschreven "The closing of the year" en het door Placido Domingo Jr. gecomponeerde "Il re Gesù". (C.K.) _
