Het welhaast archetypische "Vioolconcert in e, op.64" van Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy klonk tijdens de première aanzienlijk anders dan we nu gewend zijn. De cd-première van de oorspronkelijke versie uit 1844, die deze week wordt aangeboden, bevat een omvangrijke lijst van ruim vier en een halve pagina, met verschillen tussen de oorspronkelijke en de latere versie. Deze verschillen betreffen ondermeer het tempo, de articulatie, solopassages, aantal maten, de harmonie en de orkestratie. Het "Vioolconcert op.64" wordt in de oorspronkelijke versie van 1844 gespeeld door violiste Isabelle van Keulen en het Nieuw Sinfonietta Amsterdam onder leiding van Lev Markiz. De cd bevat tevens het eerder geschreven "Vioolconcert in d" en een door Lev Markiz verzorgde bewerking voor orkest van het bekende "Scherzo" uit het "Octet op.20". Lev Markiz en zijn Nieuw Sinfonietta Amsterdam kregen eerder bekendheid met hun mooie uitvoeringen op cd van Mendelssohns "Symfonieën voor strijkers". Deze uitvoeringen zijn inmiddels ook integraal leverbaar in een doos met vier cd's. (H.J.)_
