De 29-jarige Johnny Gill werd ontdekt door zangeres Stacy Lattisaw. Hij begon zijn carrière in 1983 met een duet met diezelfde Stacy Lattisaw getiteld "Super love". In 1988 volgde hij Bobby Brown op bij New Edition om in 1990 als solo-artiest terug te keren met het album "Johnny Gill". "Let's get the mood right" is zijn nieuwe album met sfeervolle R & B- en soulsongs. Babyface, Tony Rich, R. Kelly, Stevie Wonder en Jermaine Dupree schreven de meeste songs voor dit album. Met Stevie Wonder zingt hij het duet "Simply say I love U". _
