Gioachino Rossini Bianca e Falliero

Album

Gioachino Rossini schreef zijn grootste meesterwerken, toen hij in de twintig was: Tancredi, L'Italiana in Algeri, Il barbiere Di Seviglia, Otello en Cenerentola werden gecomponeerd binnen een tijdsbestek van vier jaar. Tegen de tijd dat Rossini's Bianca E Falliero in première ging in 1819, had het publiek bijzonder hoge verwachtingen. De opera viel tegen. Inderdaad toont dit werk Rossini niet op zijn best, maar toch zitten er prachtige stukken in. De librettist was ook geen kleintje. Felice Romani werd later immers de favoriete tekstschrijver van Bellini. Het verhaal gaat kort samengevat als volgt. Bianca moet van haar vader trouwen met Capellio. Ze is echter verliefd op Falliero, die tot bovenmaat van ramp beschuldigd wordt van hoogverraad. Gelukkig wordt de jongeman met de hulp van de nobele Capellio gered en kunnen de geliefden met elkaar trouwen. Van Bianca E Falliero is een schitterende opname verschenen met het London Philharmonic Orchestra onder leiding van David Parry. Solisten zijn Jennifer Larmore, Majella Cullagh, Barry Banks en Ildebrando D'Arcangelo. (CP)_
