Livingston, Guy Don't panic!

In een minuut kan heel wat gebeuren, maar de in Parijs wonende Amerikaanse pianist Guy Livingston deed er drie jaar over om dit duidelijk te maken. In deze periode worstelde hij met copyrightexperts, juristen, opnametechnici, managers van concertzalen en natuurlijk een groot aantal componisten. Als een soort galeriehouder verzamelde hij talloze pianominiaturen van de meest uiteenlopende componisten, van Tokyo tot Amsterdam (Louis Andriessen, Joanna Bailie), van Den Haag (Daniel Landau, Vanessa Lann) tot Istanbul. Het resultaat is de microkosmische cd Don't Panic, waarop 60 pianowerken van hooguit één minuut van (logischerwijs) 60 componisten uit 18 landen te beluisteren zijn. Dankzij al deze virtuoze niemendalletjes krijgt de elitaire hedendaagse muziek iets onmiskenbaar ironisch, alsof de dagen van Haydns schijnbaar pretentieloze, maar o zo slim gecomponeerde stukjes voor uurwerk zijn teruggekeerd.
