Soulzangeres Mavis Staples debuteerde als klein meisje in de door haar vader Pops opgerichte Staple Singers. In 1969 bracht ze het solo-album Only For The Lonely uit. Dit prachtige album is nu voor het eerst op cd verkrijgbaar. Het is digitaal geremastered en voorzien van bonustracks als You Send Me (Sam Cooke) en Son Of A Preacher Man (Dusty Springfield).
