'All these works are little gems, and deserve to be much better known.' Zo waardeerde het BBC Music Magazine het eerste deel van de serie "British light music". Op het programma staan 20e-eeuwse werken van vrij onbekende Britse componisten. Het orkest is het Royal Ballet Sinfonia en het is dus niet verbazingwekkend dat veel van de uitgevoerde werken oorspronkelijk voor het danstheater geschreven zijn. Op het derde deel van de serie staat ondermeer het "Divertissement" van Bryan Kelly (1934-) dat gebaseerd is op Franse volksliederen. De "Elegiac Blues" van Constant Lambert (1905-1951) werd gewijd aan de jong overleden zwarte zangeres Florence Mills. De balletmuziek van "Romeo and Juliet", ook van Lambert, werd gecomponeerd in opdracht van de vermaarde leider van het Russische ballet Sergei Diaghilev. (C.P.)_
