Neophyte 13 jaar terreur

Om te vieren dat de Rotterdamse hardcoreformatie Neophyte in 2005 dertien jaar bestaat wordt 13 Jaar Terreur uitgebracht, met op twee cd's zeventig nummers aan elkaar gemixt van de 'hardste mannen uit de scene'. De eerste release van Neophyte was The Three Amiga's E.P., die in 1992 door Rotterdam Records werd uitgebracht. Het waren de begindagen van de gabber, die vanuit Rotterdam heel Nederland veroverde en ook in het buitenland populair werd. Met simpele apparatuur, een Amiga met het programma ProTracker, werden de eerste nummers van Neophyte in elkaar gesleuteld door Jeroen Streunding, Danny Greten en Robin van Roon. Het vierde 'bandlid' Jarno Butter was vooral aangetrokken voor live-optredens, waarbij hij onder meer gitaar speelde. In de jaren die volgden verliet Van Roon de groep, ontwikkelde Streunding zich tot het muzikale brein en groeide Neophyte uit tot een van de grootste hardcoreacts ter wereld. Ook de nevenprojecten, waarvan Bodylotion de bekendste is, waren succesvol. Neophyte overleefde de terugval van de gabber eind jaren negentig en is in 2005 nog steeds onverminderd hard. Alleen dan niet meer met drie Amiga's, maar met een super-de-luxe studio boordevol moderne apparatuur. (IV)
