Kingdom Of Heaven van regisseur 'Sir' Ridley Scott (o.a. Gladiator, Blade Runner en Alien) is een historische drama-/oorlogsfilm over de strijd om Jeruzalem tussen kruisvaarders en Saraceense legers onder leiding van Saladin rond het jaar 1187. De muziek werd gecomponeerd door de, vergeleken met genrespecialist Hans Zimmer, relatief onbekende Harry Gregson-Williams. Hij verwerkte in zijn muziek zowel Europees-christelijke (koorzang, luit en hurdy gurdy) als tal van Arabische, Noord-Afrikaanse en Anatolische invloeden, de laatste veelal uitgevoerd door de gerenommeerde Turkse groep Kardes Türküler. En voor wanneer er gevochten moet worden zorgt The London Session Orchestra voor het nodige bombastische orkestwerk. Natascha Atlas zingt het thema. (IV)
