De gijzelingen in mei en juni 1977 (de treinkaping bij De Punt en een school in Bovensmilde) met dodelijke slachtoffers schokten Nederland en zorgden ervoor dat de radiozenders hun programmeringen aanpasten. Zo ook de Soul Show van Ferry Maat, die de naam Soft Soulshow kreeg: soulballades 'met daar tussen het geluid van een keienstrandje'. De formule werd een groot succes en ging door, ook zonder aangepaste programmering. Van deze Soft Soulshow is nu ook een verzamelaar verschenen, met op drie cd's tracks van o.a. Shalamar, Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, Earth Wind & Fire, The Isley Brothers, Evelyn 'Champagne' King en Bill Withers. (IV)
