Album

Mede door succesvolle muziekfilms als Control en 24 Hour Party People mag het verhaal van Factory Records inmiddels wel bekend zijn. Het label, opgezet door de flamboyante entrepreneur Tony Wilson, speelde een doorslaggevende rol in de muziekscene van Manchester. Een stad die vanaf het einde van de jaren zeventig muzikaal op de kaart werd gezet door invloedrijke artiesten als Joy Division, New Order en Happy Mondays. Deze staalkaart van vier cd’s geeft goed weer wat er ondergronds (de meeste artiesten op deze box bleven veroordeeld tot een bestaan in de underground) leefde gedurende de jaren tachtig. Het geluid is in de beginjaren soms introspectief en donker, maar in latere jaren steeds vaker ook uitbundig en dansbaar. (PdK)
