Muzieksamensteller Vic Van De Reijt leerden we op zijn eerdere compilaties (met zijn honderd favoriete Franse, Duitse en ‘Surivlaamse’ hits) kennen als een man met een omnivore muzieksmaak, die bekende en obscure hits tot een fraai geheel wist samen te smeden. Op dit verzamelalbum staan de jaren vijftig centraal. Een spannende klus, want er zijn nogal wat fiftiesverzamelaars in omloop. In het begeleidende boekje verdedigt Van de Reijt zijn keuzes en dan vooral om voor de originele versies te kiezen en waarom hij geen Nederlands repertoire koos (‘ze konden domweg de concurrentie met het buitenland niet aan’). De vijf cd’s zijn onderverdeeld in één met instrumentale nummers, één met mannelijke en één met vrouwelijke solisten, één rock-‘n-roll-cd en, de leukste, een cd met ‘novelty-hits’. (PdK)
