De link tussen Bob Dylan en Amnesty International is gemakkelijk te leggen. Waar Dylan begin jaren zestig zong over onrecht en gelijke kansen in de wereld, strijdt de welzijnsorganisatie sinds 1961 voor de mensenrechten. In dat jaar werd de organisatie opgericht door de Engelse advocaat Peter Benenson nadat hij een artikel las over twee Portugese studenten die veroordeeld werden tot zeven jaar gevangenisstraf omdat zij kritiek hadden geuit op hun dictator Salazár. Vanwege het vijftigjarig bestaan van Amnesty International verschijnt dit album met 73 nummers van Dylan, voor het grootste deel nooit eerder uitgebracht, vertolkt door een diversiteit aan muzikale grootheden. Dat de nummers van Dylan deze dagen nog steeds actueel zijn en tot de verbeelding spreken moge duidelijk zijn. Het bewijs is terug te vinden in de indrukwekkende lijst van artiesten die hun medewerking verleenden. Daarop prijken niet alleen namen van ‘oudjes’ als Mark Knopfler , Kris Kristofferson , Sting en Pete Seeger , maar ook die van tienersterretje Miley Cyrus en popartiesten als Lenny Kravitz en Adele .
