Internationale sterren staan in de rij om samen te mogen werken met pianist en televisiepresentator Jools Holland en zijn indrukwekkende Rhythm & Blues Orchestra. Het is dan ook geen verrassing dat op The Golden Age Of Song een indrukwekkende lijst aan artiesten is te vinden. Geslaagd is de samenwerking met Paolo Nutini die Lovin’ Machine op overtuigende wijze neerzet, evenals het romantische Get Here waarbij het gouden strotje van Jessie J prachtig naar voren komt. Het meest indrukwekkend is echter het emotionele Don’t Go To Strangers waarbij Paul Weller een radeloze Amy Winehouse de helpende hand biedt. Ook onze eigen Caro Emerald imponeert op het fraaie Mad About The Boy dat in 1932 door Sir Noel Coward werd geschreven en daarna door een groot aantal aan artiesten werd gecoverd. The Golden Age Of Song is een uitermate geslaagd project geworden, mede dankzij de aanwezigheid van alle muzikale grootheden. Maar de credits gaan vooral naar Jools Holland, die de oude hits perfect heeft neergezet en daar ook nog eens juiste artiest van de 21e eeuw bij heeft weten te vinden. (BvdV)
