Alessandro Scarlatti Con eco d'amore

Op deze cd breekt sopraan Elizabeth Watts een lans voor Alessandro Scarlatti. Deze belangrijke opera- en cantatecomponist wordt momenteel namelijk volledig overschaduwd door zijn zoon Domenico Scarlatti. Om deze cd samen te kunnen stellen heeft Elizabeth Watts hele stapels bladmuziek doorgeworsteld in de Westminster Music Library. Samen met dirigent Laurence Cummings maakte ze een ruwe selectie. Uit die selectie ontstond vervolgens een shortlist die als basis diende voor deze cd. Elizabeth Watts waagt zich hier o.a. aan Torbido, irato, e nero. Deze spectaculaire aria componeerde Alessandro Scarlatti ooit voor de legendarische castraat Farinelli, toen deze nog maar 17 jaar oud was. Naar aanleiding van de eindeloze colloraturen twitterde Elizabeth Watts: ‘Goed nieuws: ik kan 88 noten op één adem zingen! Het slechte nieuws: Scarlatti componeerde er 89’. (HJ)
